A bill to ban the use of foreign law in state courts is moving ahead in state legislature.
Montana lawmakers are poised to pass a bill banning the use of foreign law in state courts. SB 97 doesn't mention Islamic law, or Sharia, but supporters spoke of fears that Muslim immigrants won't follow the state or U.S. constitution while opponents say the measure is discriminatory and unnecessary because there's never been an application of Sharia law in Montana's courts.
