They met at a#retirement community, and when Sid# Garelick, my he gave#it to his wife, who's since died,## and we inherited them for my# son.
APPRAISER GUEST: Sid actually#was a dry cleaner# in Baltimore and he was, I#think,## the designated dry cleaner# for the Baltimore#Orioles.
APPRAISER: So, we have three three game-use 1970, which is when they won the World Series, together#with three cards from the same three## players:#we have Brooks Robinson,# Frank Robinson and Boog#Powell.
These were actually game-used bats and we know# that because there's a number stampe And we also know that we can match that number# to the Louisville Slugger archives and be able to## say what's the exact length, what's the exact# weight, who was it made for and shipped#to.
Handwritten numbers also tell us that they were# in the bat rack and ready to use during the game.## We also see scuffs on it.
Light scuffs,# not a lot, so they weren't heavily used.
They're#not cracked, but there is enough light# use to#them that we know they were used in a game.
On the Louisville Slugger# the "powerized" brand is,## um,#starting in the 1930s and they continued on.
But#they trademarked it in 1973, so that's how# we can#date the bats because it doesn't have# the trademark on it.
So we know it's pre '73.## And we know that Frank Robinson's last year at# the Orioles was In 1971, so we know that these## are either '71 or earlier.
What happened in# '69-'70 and '71?
It was the greatest time to## be a Baltimore Oriole.
They won three American# League championships and the#pinnacle in 1970 was when they won the World#Series.
So you've# got great players, you've got a great team,## you've got the great years#of the team.
So at auction today, the Boog Powell#game-used## bat would sell for $1,000 to $1,500.
GUEST: Wow, that's fantastic.
APPRAISER: The Frank Robinson# bat#would bring $5,000 to $8,000.
GUEST: No way.
APPRAISER: Yes way.
GUEST: Oh,#that's fantastic.
APPRAISER: But even better, let's talk about# the Brooks Robinson bat.
$10,000 to $15 GUEST: Oh my gosh.
That's# sensational.
That is fantastic.
APPRAISER: The cards value,# not#as much.
About $50 each.
GUEST: My son's getting# married,#as is my daughter,## so perhaps this could help#fund it.# But just joking.
