(gentle guitar music) Our next video comes to us from Zane Reneau who records and performs under the name R'Know, R, apostrophe K, N-O-W.
In full disclosure I knew Zane j as a very young man when I worked with his father many years ago.
I'd heard he was doing his own m and was drawn to hear what he wa It's safe to say we haven't had a video on this program that is anything like this one, as it is primarily spoken word, but there is a tremendous melodi to R'Know's words, and certainly a driving rhythm behind that energy.
Far more important is the lyrica The song was written as a collaboration with his brother Sterling, who performs as Young and came about as a response to the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movem hence the title of our next vide (deep breathing) - One, two, three, four.
That's how many men took the life of George.
Five, six, seven, eight, too many names, I can't keep them all straight.
Nine, 10, 11, 12, riots in the street, the Earth looks like hell, and if I need help, I shouldn't 'cause the last thing I need is an excuse to die.
12, 11, 10, nine, eight, you think racism's dead, along with systemic hate.
Seven, six, five, four, three, t my heart won't stop hurting from all the pain, I'm numb.
They tell me to be strong but I can't even breathe, and it's probably from the press of all these metaphoric knees, but I will never kneel down, for I'm about to hit my stride, and I will fight this inequality as long as I'm alive.
Because today, I'm alive.
And as far as I can tell, my place is sacred and it's right.
And as far as I can tell, I'm th to end this fight, because my dad, he is black, and my mom, she is white, and I am just the product of true beauty in this life.
I just want beauty in this life.
I need you to understand that I am human in this life.
And just like him, and just like and just like you, I have the ri but the only thing that's differ is who's the fuel to this fire.
I don't care what you look like, I don't care who you choose to l I don't care what street you gre and I don't care how much money but for every human's sake, we all deserve to feel safe, we all deserve to have respect, and to feel like we have a place and until we put down hate our world will just disintegrate I see the dark we face.
It's so much darker than my face How can we be so divided over something as fake as race?
How can I pledge allegiance to the United States when so many people with authori to help things change?
I want liberty and justice instead of death and destruction I want fairness and equality instead of violence and corrupti I wanna hear your voice, and I wanna hear you breathe.
And I wanna see this end, because I'll always have a dream - First and foremost, I love you I wanna hug you.
I do not believe I am above you.
There's been plenty of time to u pieces of the past, so now this is what it's come to I hope that nobody ever thugs yo The hate you give lives in the veins that it runs through, but if I bleed, and you bleed, then believe if my blood red, you have red blood too.
We're all human, standing in sil watching them kill us violent they say the past is behind us, so why are so many crying?
Why are so many dying?
The path is littered with massac fueling the fires.
Masses move on from passive, 'cause that's the truth that was the messages were denied, how do you call it freedom?
They tell us to stay inside.
How do you call it freedom when safety's to run and hide?
If I come in peace, is that enou If my hood is up, am I getting s I really shouldn't have to be to I shouldn't have to be Jay, I shouldn't have to be Puff, I shouldn't have to be an activist for something I can't control.
I should be praising we, instead of fighting for us.
My heart is heavy, I wake up str my confidence wearing thin, my patience is even less, trying to make a statement, the pressure's taking my breath.
Thoughts are all out of order, my thinking has been a mess, I'm usually calculated but nothing is adding up.
How low do we have to fall befor will start bouncing up?
For the people, by the people, really don't mean that much, when the people that think it's don't really care about us.
We are unwell.
Think about it.
If more time had been put into fixing the problem instead of pretending the problem went away and the struggle's forgotten, we would have never gotten back to the place where the place was supposed to is disgusting and rotten, and the gap would be smaller between the top and the bottom and conversations could be civil and modern instead of vicious and awful, and an awful lot of people would be kept out of coffins, and I'm supposed to wear a mask for the coughing but a mask makes me suspicious, so I'm stared at too often, we are unwell.
I hope you can hear what it mean 'cause no matter what, we should still have a dream.
